The Master of Computer Application (MCA) is a technical postgraduate degree in IT and the CS domain. The duration of this program is 24 months, which is further split into four six-month semesters. The course is delivered by IGNOU’s School of Computer and Information Science in distance mode.

The IGNOU MCA course applies to both Indian and international students with the following eligibility criteria.

Indian Applicants:

• A BCA, BE, or B.Tech from a recognized university/institution.
• A minimum of 50% marks in the last semester’s TEE (45% for reserved categories)
• BA/B.Sc/B.Com with mathematics as a subject in graduation or 10+2 level.
• Applicants without a Math/IT background must pass a bridge course of MCS-201 and MCS-208 to continue their program.

International Applicants:

• Bachelor's degree (preferably a technical degree) from an AIU-recognized university.
• With Math/IT as a subject at graduation or 10+2 level, or need to pass the equivalent bridge course.
• A minimum of 50 % marks in the last qualifying exams.
• A valid VISA, Passport, or NRI identity proof.

IGNOU Distance MCA Duration

The IGNOU MCA is set with a semester curriculum and a total duration of 24 months. This PG program follows a 4 semesters to cover the pre-scheduled syllabus. Additionally, students can also extend their course duration to 4 years, as per UGC's latest norms, in case of medical/personal circumstances, or failure in TEE examinations.

IGNOU follows a simple admission process with two admission cycles: January & June for its distance courses. Applicants looking to pursue the respective management course need to follow these steps

Step 1: Registration:

• Create APAAR & ABC ID
• Verify email and mobile number
• Create a user ID

The IGNOU follows the latest NEP 2020 curriculum with a deep dive into technical theory concepts and a slight insight into practical approaches. The program consists of a total of 22 subjects, divided into 6 practicals, 15 theoretical, and 1 project paper. It has a total of 80 credits.

It covers the core concepts of discrete mathematics, C Language, Java, software engineering, data communication, and cloud computing. Assessment with a weightage of 30%, it consists of quizzes, case studies, and subjective questions. Students need to submit their subject-wise assessments to the program coordinator of their respective study center.

Special lab examination to showcase students’ practical skills on app development and software engineering. Students need to have atleast 75% attendance to ensure their seat on TEE exams.

Term-end Examination (TEE) consists of MCQs, long-term, and short-term questions with a 70% weightage. Students must visit the pre-assigned physical exam centers for the TEE held in January and June every year.
