IIT Bombay 70% graduates of the academic batch 2024-25 secured job offers through the campus placement process. However, this is a lower number than last year's placement rate, which was 75%, with the average salary increased to INR 26.45 LPA, while the median salary reached INR 20 LPA. IIT Bombay revealed a rise of 10% in average median salaries compared to the previous year.
The institute also claimed that many students picked different career pathways like entrepreneurship, higher studies, or doctoral programs instead of campus placement. The report disclosed that “It is important to note that not all registered students participated in the placement process, possibly indicating that some pursued alternative avenues such as entrepreneurship or higher studies. The relatively low placement numbers for the PhD programme may be attributed to students typically opting for other opportunities, such as postdoctoral fellowships”.
The annual campus placement procedure was undertaken between July 2024 and June 2025. A total of 417 companies from various sectors, such as engineering, information technology, consulting, finance, research, development, and emerging technology domains, participated in it. The report shows that 2,469 students registered for placement and only 2,040 engaged in the two rounds of the placement process. 1,422 students secured jobs for themselves according to the 2024-25 institutions' annual placement report.
Engineering and technology were one of the largest recruiting sectors with 429 offers, and succeeded by IT software coding offering 316 jobs. The consulting firms contributed 126 offers, whereas the data analytics and finance sectors contributed 114 offers.
Placement for PhD students was lower than in other streams, and the report highlighted that recruiters demanded B.Tech, M.Tech, and Dual programmes. The placement rate for the B.Tech and M.Tech were 82% and 72% simultaneously, while Dual programmes students recorded around 80% placement.
